We’re run By Drummers, for Drummers.

The Beat was started by drummer and music industry veteran Nick Gordon, who has built a cross-functional team of percussionists, live music execs, technologists, and retail executives to create a new community and resource for percussive arts in New York City.

Prior to founding The Beat, he led the percussion division at D’Addario, and was on the executive team that built The Orchard into the largest music distributor in the world. He’s an active drummer, photographer, community builder, & frequent contributor to Tom Tom Magazine, a media company focused on female drummers and feminism.


Nick, in his own words:

“I’ve always experienced drumming, meditation, community, and going to live shows through the same lens. Like so many things in New York, they’re all part of my lifestyle. Turns out, there’s a ton of people just like me.

As an active drummer myself, I grew frustrated shopping for drums at Guitar-centric chain stores. I craved a specialized drum retail experience in Brooklyn where professionals or beginners, women and men would all comfortable and be encouraged to hang out and share ideas with each other. So I decided to start one myself, and build it around the new generation of New York percussionists.
